It is not the same thing. The assumption has always been that it might be possible to have more without cheating to get it.
The change is the diminished role of the term "unfair" in the discussions. Conservatism has taken refuge in "fiscal" concentration over and above "social" concentration such that one rarely hears what might be "unfair" about any of it. For example, is casual sex an unfair business practice? Are lax marriage laws unfair to anyone?
Proverbs c21 v30
The definitions of right and wrong that have emerged are based only on equality. Nothing else seems to matter. The left fights for equality and the right defends its inequality. The left has the advantage that if everything is equally true then everyone is equally smart and thereby entitled to be equally wealthy. The right is in the somewhat more awkward position of having to speak up about right and wrong more than they have been comfortable speaking up lately.
It is important to be mindful here that there are good reasons not to be wealthy. Having less property is no sign of wrongdoing. Some people are more comfortable with less. When they believe they should have more then that does raise the question whose fault things might be.
A possible explanation for the disarray of the right can be found in the article here on Cultural Inversion.
A possible explanation for their failure to speak up about right and wrong is their late found belief that their "Jewish crew cuts" speak for them. Of course there never has been any such thing as a Jewish crew cut, and there likely never will be. That is explained in the science section, What Long Hair on Males Means. Once that is made clear then it is expected they will of necessity become more outspoken on social issues of right and wrong.
Few people expected the Obama administration to destroy the fabric of society. Fabric destroyed or not, there do appear issues of a far more serious nature than anyone, including here, could have guessed. Some psychotic interpretation of laissez-faire seems the dominant mood in the country. No party was prepared to deal with this.
