It can seem that the political process and democracy itself have finally collapsed. Bitter contention and lack of civility are rampant in the news. Despite the claims of Democrats that they are compelled by science, very essential data is still missing or contrary to their actions. The death rate for the pandemic years is still not significantly different from the death rates since the 1950s at least. (Going back too far for comparison fails to recognize rather numerous social and scientific changes correctly.) That means the severity of the pandemic and the efficacy of vaccines can be adjusted according to how comorbidity is interpreted. There remains little to no science on how to interpret comorbidity.
Bad as any real disease or unwarranted fear in the absence of a disease might be, the country had worse problems before. The national debt was already several times the increase caused by the shutdown of the economy and that was without a pandemic. Notice the lead articles in the sections here for the 2016 and 2020 presidential election discuss the "Mob Rule" developing. Perhaps you can see it at last.
Of course Democrats have never had compelling science to support any of their beliefs. Belief in science is not the same thing as science. Belief in science can be worse than blind faith of any other kind. That is probably the lesson that will result from the "pandemic."
Yet somehow Republicans have consistently failed to challenge bad science with good science. Rather they seem bent on a concept of "freedom" to do as they please as deserving soldiers against hippies, communists, and perverts, and being totally unwilling to admit several Arab and some Jewish communities are already doing better at that than they ever will.
It has been the longstanding cry of this website that after the overthrow of the Shah of Iran in 1979 the United States military lost its hold on the political right. The mobs just get worse and worse.
