In the last presidential election round this website noted, "It can seem that the political process and democracy itself have finally collapsed." Now have a look around. Most sensible people will likely expect to give a president at least one year to prove his ability to run the country. It is hoped that Trump will eventually get a clear idea how to put things in orders by then. Trump does however have a long history of bucking against good sense.
For decades now the Republican Party has struggled with its identity. It can appear the alignment of voters behind Trump is a desperate and ill guided attempt to finally establish a party definition. "Yeah, we're for tariffs. You didn't see that coming, did you?' They unify behind Trump to the extent they do because they have no idea what they should unify behind.
As of this writing the Trump base is still dominated by an immature, terribly misinformed, and emotional crowd. Many of the people who post "Republican" arguments on social media are in fact too young to vote.
One thing they obviously do not understand is that the privacy and safety concerns about restrooms have already been solved by civil engineers. The latch on the restroom stall door is of such a simple design that even a child can see when it is latched and secure. That of course introduces the problem of safety. How can such a secure latch be safe in a medical emergency? There is an opening of about a foot at the bottom of the stall through which most medical emergencies might be noticed. Then the stall might be broken if there is no person small enough to enter through that gap. Mike Johnson, Nancy Mace, and other Republicans are obviously too ignorant of building codes and standard procedures to realize they are trying to solve a problem that has already been solved for many years in the rest of the world.
Another complaint often heard is that men are competing against women in sports. If there are enough people who want a rule, then they should form some league where they make the rule. There is no voting Republican or Democrat required. The complaints are again from terribly uninformed Republicans, often too young to vote. Notice the unnatural dependence on the force of government to persuade anyone of anything.
Generally speaking, the various manifestations of "gender confusion" are not really ideals of the Democrats. Of course Democrats have long been famous for letting people who are minding their own business have considerable free reign. The notion however that Democrats want to break into Republican houses and mutilate the children has almost nothing to do with the Democratic Party. Again the complaints are mostly from Republicans.
That there is any talk at all of amending the Constitution so that Trump can have yet another term illustrates how desperate his base is to have a leader they can blindly follow. Of course the Constitution will not be so amended and most people know that, but you might notice some really weird people out there from time to time.
Only time can tell, and it should be given much more time, but preliminary indications are that the Trump base has absolutely no clue how to do anything whatsoever to "make America great." Conditions under their rule are likely to get so bad they finally realize they are doing something wrong and change their ways . What they are doing wrong is expecting to rule by force. They have to rule by force because they do not understand well enough how anything works to persuade anyone else how it should work.
There is an obvious need for both political parties in the United States to go back to the drawing board and start over in 2028.
