Patience Ever the Virtue
Seven Mountains
To Seven Mountains the fresh new sound came
To wind in the trees and birdsong near the same
By the nest like the little chicks chirping
And around the pond for no lesser fame
Perhaps the cricket there scratching his head
Is deciding thick cloud or sun to dread
But soon there will come like angel voices
As on Seven Mountains was lately read
The pulling gloom might then walk helmetless
And the cricket in song his joy confess
Because laughing children playing nearby
Are heard from their Seven Mountain address

Is the Legend True? | |
Yes, this is the legendary albino squirrel of the Richmond, Virginia area. I spotted it four times over past two years. The people who live or work near its preferred home have spotted it many times before. The first three times I had only an old cell phone camera which had no zoom, and the pictures were not much good as the squirrel was too far away to be recognized. On the fourth sighting I had a camera with a great zoom feature that enabled me to take these pictures. | |
From some angles the eyes do not seem pink which has led many to believe the squirrel is not a true albino. To the left is an example. Since the squirrel's eyes are aimed more to the sides than forward, a person looking directly into the face is seeing the eyes very obliquely and hence they seem darker.
I wanted to get a movie of the creature romping about but it seemed ready for a nap the evening of this visit. I do believe this particular tree is its "home" tree. Photos by Arlon Staywell - June 29, 2007 |
