The latest opinion to cause trouble is the one concerning when human life begins. For more on the "soul" see the article in the religion section, Science Has No Soul. It is my opinion that life begins at conception. I fully understand it is an opinion. I cannot "prove" life begins at conception. I do not know "for a fact" that life begins at conception. I simply "believe" life begins at conception. There is a scripture that is often cited in discussions of when life begins. Jeremiah c1 v5, "Before I formed thee [Jeremiah] in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations." Of course even people not familiar with that scripture already understand that life is formed in the womb at some point. The scripture isn't very clear what point. Nor is it clear what existed even "before" that. Was it a "soul" or just some blueprint? While yes, it does suggest some early formation of something or other, it does not address exactly what point the "life" exists in the womb. My own reasons for believing life begins at conception are entirely scientific, but even they fall short of proof.
People who cannot distinguish opinions from facts are the ones passing some of the laws against abortion lately. It is because they want their opinion of when life begins considered a fact. Some new restrictions on abortion are more sensible than others. Some of the latest laws are crazy as all hell. Here is the evidence that I was right about some types of blind faith.
I still cannot believe Dr. Fauci could possibly be as stupid as many of the things he said. Nor can I believe several of the other medical experts and authorities on television could be that stupid. Something seems up. Maybe it was a "conspiracy" to establish just how blind the faith of some people in "science" can be. What did you learn? Don't worry about me though. I am cautious. Whatever the "real" problem might have been, for me it warrants caution and civil order.
I also cannot believe the justices of the Supreme Court are as stupid as to ignore the rights of women to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as well as every other constitutional right. Notice that the citizenship of the mother is a fact; when life begins is an opinion. Maybe that too is part of some "conspiracy" to reveal how some other types of blind faith can be problematic. Maybe this time it is the Republicans' turn to get caught. I hope no one thinks I caused either of those schemes, if they even are schemes. I still don't know what is up with them. What I do know is that the world has gone crazy. I just can't believe authorities would do what it appears they are doing.  Is it "The Great Weaning: Chapter 2"?
You should vote and you can vote. Overwhelmingly most people in authority appreciate that, and so do I. A famous quote attributed to Winston Churchill is that, "Democracy is the worst form of government except for all the others." The meaning is that while Democracy indeed has problems, the other forms of government have worse problems. We must depend on your vote and your cooperation. If you go down, we all go down.
Lately many voters have been letting us down. However little respect we have for Donald Trump as a "leader" of any discipline whatsoever, we would not tamper with any votes. The count of votes is a truth that is essential to the list of truths from which we must operate. Never mind that we also have profound concerns about the abilities of Biden.
Then too, they might be right (we, counting me). Maybe life does begin at conception. So go for it. In a manner of speaking it can be a "fact" in law without being a fact in science. There is no voting in science. It is risky but possible to set some arbitrary point at which life is considered to begin. If it drives people from your state, maybe that would be best. I'm sure you could find that preferable anyway. So ban abortion however your state agrees is best. Please be careful not to lower the average intelligence in your state thereby.
It is a very good idea to pass amendments to your state constitutions that ensure "This state shall not deprive any citizen, including women, of life, liberty or the pursuit of happiness without due process of law." I believe that is essential after the obvious blunder of the Supreme Court. Notice you can still ban abortions, but you might have to be a little more careful of the rights of women. Some people will probably try rebooting the "Equal Rights Amendment" Its time limit has expired and it would require a complete reboot. They still do not understand why it failed. Its wording would require two very unpopular quotas. One is that assigning child custody would require courts assign "equally" to fathers and mothers. The other is that half the military would have to be women. The better amendment idea here would ensure women equal protection of the law without those troublesome quotas. Don't let other states beat you to it. States that support abortion now will have no trouble passing such an amendment. When all heads are clear, it could be put in the Constitution at the federal level.
Please also notice that there are much bigger problems than abortion. Too many people are too plain stupid to run a lemonade stand out of their front yard much less a country with a trillion dollar budget. It is however a democracy and as previously noted, if they go down we all go down. There is no better plan than to help every citizen understand the issues, to teach them how to distinguish facts from opinions.
